About Smart Soil

Smart Soil is on a mission to divert waste from Nebraska landfills while creating high-quality compost, mulch, and soil for a variety of uses.

Our Story

Smart Soil was created in 2017 by Andrew Woitaszewski. During this time, the family farm was struggling because of the poor farm economy.  Andrew began looking for ways to cut costs.

With plummeting commodity prices and high fertilizer costs, Andrew knew there had to be ways to save their farm money while improving soil health.

The idea of composting wastes generated in nearby towns became a reality after many years of research, education, and permitting.  In 2023, Smart Soil LLC was granted a Solid Waste Compost permit under Title 132 of the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy.

Today, Andrew, along with his staff, operates Smart Soil northwest of Grand Island, Nebraska.

Our Vision

  1. Divert as much material as possible away from Nebraska landfills.  Take the diverted material and compost it into usable soil amendments.
  2. Help anyone growing crops, plants, grass, or turf, in Central Nebraska, to unlock the full potential of their soils by utilizing the benefits of compost.
